Pharmacological Effects of the "Yahom Nawakot" Extract
Effect on the circulatory System - It helps raise the blood pressure, increase cerebral blood flow velocity, and relax the small blood vessels. These properties relieve dizziness and faintness.
Effect on the gastro-intestinal System - It helps reduce gastric acid secretions and bowel movements, and relieve nausea and vomit. These medicinal actions increase the properties of relieving nausea, stomach pain, and abdominal discomfort.
Effect on the central Nervous System - It has a sedative effect upon the central nervous system, and enhances the effect of tranquillizer drugs.
Effect on the heart - It increases the force of contraction of the heart - not exceeding the normal heart rate ? increases the pumping of blood, and raises the blood pressure.
Toxicity evaluation of "Yahom Nawakot" Extract
Acute toxicity tests were conducted in both male and female mice and rats. Each animal received a single high dose of "Yahom Nawakot" extract. There was no behavioural change or death found within a period of seven days. The testing animals showed normal rates of growth, liver and kidney functions, and quantity and quality of blood cells. No chronic toxicity was found in Wistar rats that had been fed the extract of "Yahom Nawakot" for six months. This indicates the safety of "Yahom Nawakot" for consumers.
